Visa extension giving you a new permission of stay in Vietnam, but how long does it actually take to handle a Vietnam visa extension? Whether you can do by yourself or you must submit through a travel agent?

In fact, Vietnam visa extension can be processed in person or by travel agency. You can directly come to Immigration office in your province to submit extension application and wait for the result. The time for processing normally takes 7 working days after getting full required documents.

For those who use extension service through travel agency, the processing time will be faster. It normally takes 5 working days for standard service and 2 working days for urgent service.

The processing time for Vietnam visa extension is not included Saturday, Sunday and Vietnam holidays. So the processing days is counted by working days, not by calendar days.

One more thing to note when doing a visa extension in Vietnam is, you must submit visa extension before expiry date. It’s recommended to submit at least 2 days before expiry date. If it is later than expiry date, you will be overstayed and the procedure will be more difficult, and the fee will be higher.
